Throughout the antique wooden windows and doors have been refurbished using local chestnut and the wooden floors have been made from pitch pine.
The village of Genalguacil won the prize for being the most attractive white village in Andalucia and is set in the beautiful Sierra del Bermeja mountain region, a paradise for walkers and lovers of flora and fauna, it has approximately 600 inhabitants. The area is a designated Parque Natural, containing forests of Spanish Fir, Chestnut, Pinsapos (rare Pines) and Cork Oak trees.
There are orchards of orange, lemon, pear, apple and cherry and also lots of aromatic plants including, Spanish broom, sage and fennel.
It is famous as an Open Air Art Museum, works of art and sculpture can be seen all over the village. Every two years the village hosts an artist and their work is donated to the Village and are displayed all-over.
There is a bank, post office, pharmacy, three mini-supermarkets, four bars, two restaurants and during July/August the municipal swimming pool is open to the public. It is a large enclosed pool surrounded by Cyprus trees and well kept lawns, there is also usually a small bar where refreshments can be purchased.
